Inclusive Art Activities

Today's Blog includes an art activity, a visual, and a video on how to use some sensory strategies to engage children in art activities.

Making a Wind Stick with your Child

This is a super easy spring craft activity that you can do at home with your child. Included with this unit are: an instruction sheet, a visual, and a video with tips on how to engage your child in art activities. (if art is not a preferred activity for them)

Materials needed: A paper towel tube, something to decorate the tube, (crayons, paint, chalk, watercolors) string, and tissue (or something to make tissue strips like gift tissue, birthday streamers, paper towel strips)

Step 1: Get an empty paper towel tube

Step 2: Decorate it. With anything. If your child is really into Thomas the train, cover it with train stickers. It your child loves to finger paint, finger paint it. If you can include an element your child loves, this will make the activity more engaging.

Step 3: Attach the tissue streamers. (or paper towel or coffee filter streamers)

Step 4: If applicable, let it dry.

Step 5: Attach string and hang it up in the wind. Watch it blow!

The visual that accompanies this activity is on the visuals page under the "art" section.
