Parent's Rights & Advocacy in Early Intervention & Early Childhood Special Education

IDEA is the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act.

All states in the US are required to follow the laws in IDEA.  The federal government maintains a website to provide information to districts and families.  Click on arrow button above to go there. 

Did You Know? There are lots of websites that can help you understand your child's IFSP and become an advocate.

Wright's Law will help you to understand your child's IFSP/IEP and also understand what your rights are as a parent.

(National Resource) They offer training and information on IEP/IFSP advocacy for parents. 

The ECTA Center

This agency also offers information on advocacy and understanding your rights as a parent; however, the information is geared more towards the birth-3 (early intervention) population.

Inclusion Support Resource

The TIES Center is the national technical assistance center on inclusive practices and policies. Its purpose is to create sustainable changes in district educational systems so that students with disabilities can fully participate in the same activities peers while receiving an education that meets their individual learning needs.
